Birds-eye gilia (Gilia tricolor)

Bird’s-Eye Gilia is a delicate annual wildflower native to the grasslands and open areas of California and parts of the western United States. Known for its eye-catching clusters of trumpet-shaped blooms, this species displays a beautiful mix of lavender, white, and yellow with deep purple throats—giving each flower the appearance of a tiny, painted eye.

Thriving in well-drained soils and sunny locations, Bird’s-Eye Gilia adds color to meadows and gardens from late spring into early summer. It is an important nectar source for native bees and other pollinators, making it both visually striking and ecologically valuable.
