Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis)

A splash of magenta against bare spring branches, Eastern Redbud lights up forest edges and backyard gardens alike. Native to eastern and central North America, from southern Ontario through the Great Lakes and south to Florida and eastern Texas, this small tree thrives in sunny or lightly shaded habitats with well-drained soil. Its early blooms feed emerging pollinators, while its heart-shaped leaves and graceful branching offer shelter for songbirds throughout the growing season.
